Barcelona manager Gerardo Martino has pleased the Transfer Tavern by ruling out the possibility of singing Premier League duo Daniel Agger and David Luiz this summer, as reported by the Independent.
The Catalan club have been linked all summer long with moves for some of English football’s best defenders, but the new Barca boss is happy with what he has and will re-evaluate in January.
Liverpool defender Agger was reportedly the number one target of the La Liga champions who get their defence of the title underway this evening at home to Levante.
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has stated that he will not be selling any of his top players this summer including Agger and striker Luis Suarez.
David Luiz was the second option that Barcelona were seeking but Jose Mourinho had a similar tone to Rodgers in that he had no plans to let one of his best players leave the club ahead of the new season.
Luiz has played in midfield more often than not in recent months for the Blues and could feature there again today as they kick off their season at home to newly promoted Hull City.
Both Premier League clubs will be pleased to hear that the powerhouse of Barcelona will not be seeking to buy their players, even if they were adamant they would not be selling – after all a move to Barcelona is hard for anyone to turn down.
“We have Puyol, Pique, Mascherano, Bartra, even Adriano. If there’s an injury, January transfer window is only a few months away.”
