Liverpool should consider Suarez sale

Brendan Rodgers' men could be better off without the talented but controversial striker

Brendan Rodgers has made some great signings in his time as manager of Liverpool. These include Simon Mignolet, who has already earned two clean sheets this season, and the creativePhilippe Coutinho who has impressed fans with his flair.

But Rodgers has made a big mistake in not letting Luis Suárez leave the club this summer.Arsenal offered over £40 million for the unsettled Uruguayan, only for the bid to be rejected. There has also been an open interest from notorious big spenders Real Madrid.

It is no surprise that Liverpool are reluctant to sell the striker. Suárez can score goals from all ranges and he possesses great pace and dribbling skills. He was on great form last season, scoring 23 goals in the Premier League and finishing as runner-up for the Premier League Golden Boot to Robin van Persie. Without Suárez last season, Liverpool would have finished shockingly low in the league and he was essential to their campaign. 

However, Suárez is a controversial character. He is currently sitting out on the sidelines after being given a10-game ban for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanović, and this isn't the only incident Suárez has been involved with. Whilst club captain for Ajax he bit another player and he has also been found guilty of racially abusing Patrice Evra. So is he worth all these allegations and over £40 million to Liverpool? Brendan Rodgers and club chairman Tom Werner certainly think so.

Furthermore, Liverpool look very impressive in the attacking department in the Uruguayan's absence. English striker Daniel Sturridge has scored 8 goals in his last seven league appearances and bringing back Suárez might disrupt Sturridge's good form.

Also Coutinho looks threatening to all opposing defenders. £7 million signing Iago Aspas has looked like more than a one-trick-pony and there is more potential in starlets Luis Alberto and Fabio Borini, the latter of whom recently demonstrated real talent in the UEFA U21 European Championships.

I think Liverpool should open their eyes. Imagine some of the players they could recruit with an extra £40 million. They should follow in the footsteps of Tottenham and re-structure the squad and try to get back into the top four. 

But,for now Suárez looks set to stay at Liverpool. The coach, players and most importantly the fans love him and want him to stay. But will keeping Suárez be good in the long run? We shall have to wait and see.
