Liverpool loan star scores on full debut … and is sent off 15 minutes later

Krisztian Adorjan had a full debut to remember for FC Groningen today.

Liverpool have plenty of talented young starlets amongst their ranks, with several of them catching my eye in last year’s NextGen Campaign.

One such player, who really impressed me and many a pundit, was Hungarian playmaker Krisztian Adorjan.

A solid side, with a reputation for playing smooth and silky football, they seemed the perfect location for a classy player like Adorjan.The 20-year-old obviously caught the eye of many admirers as well it seems, as at the beginning of July he was out on trial with Dutch outfit FC Groningen.

Groningen wanted him permanently, but Liverpool instead made it clear he could be available on loan - but that he was far to promising to leave the club permanently.

In the end Groningen were happy to oblige and brought him in on loan for the season.

He didn’t start the opening tie of the season against NEC Nijmegen, but did come off the bench for his debut in the 90th minute.

But he was handed the start for the second fixture of the campaign, an away tie against newly promoted Go Ahead Eagles.

And he had a good game. His passing ability on show and his knack for a goal was also evident.

He took the ball down just inside the box, faked a shot, before cutting onto his left foot and smashing home a half-volley to make the score 2-2.

The game ended 3-3, but Adorjan was not around to see it.

Unfortunately, he was sent for an early bath after leading with his elbow in an aerial battle - and to be fair it was a harsh red.

But overall the game had plenty to be positive about for the young Hungarian.
