Arsenal & Liverpool hold out hope at landing free transfer

The Football Transfer Tavern is intrigued when Ben Jefferson from The Express arrives at the bar to explain that Barcelona defender Martin Montoya could be on the move with a possible destination being the Premier League.
His agent has left the door open for his client to make a move to Arsenal or Liverpool with a new contract at Barcelona seemingly far from agreed.
Montoya.jpgMontoya was linked to Arsenal and Liverpool during the recently closed transfer window, only to indicate that he was likely to sign a new contract at the Camp Nou.
But now according to reports in France, Italy and Spain, a free transfer at the end of the season remains a possibility.
According to Montoya's agent Jose Maria Orobitg, the 22-year-old defender remains concerned that Daniel Alves is blocking his path to the first team at Barcelona and he could therefore be open to a move.
Orobitg said: "For the moment he is under contract with FC Barcelona until the end of the season. However, the contract extension has still not arrived.
"We have talked but there is no certainty that Martin Montoya would hold down a first-team spot, because right now Daniel Alves closes the door. The transfer window is closed, but I can tell you that the contract extension may not be successful."
He added: "In the past, Inter Milan, Napoli, Bayer Leverkusen, Dortmund and Liverpool were interested.""Anything could happen between now and June.

World Cup qualifier: Denmark defeat Armenia thanks to Daniel Agger's penalty

Daniel Agger kept Denmark's hopes of qualification for the World Cup alive from the penalty spot as his side defeated 10-man Armenia in Tuesday's Group B match in Yerevan.
Agger did not miss from 12 yards after Varazdat Haroyan brought down Viktor Fischer in the 73rd minute, placing the ball into the bottom left corner to beat Armenia goalkeeper Gevorg Kasparov.
Haroyan was shown a red card for the challenge on Fischer after it earned him his second booking of the night - his first came in the second minute for a foul on Nicki Bille Nielsen.
The result means Denmark have 12 points while Armenia remain on nine, with Italy leading the group comfortably.
Denmark dominated the game and had two early chances denied by Kasparov, who blocked a Bille Nielsen volley from the left of the area before saving Christian Eriksen's 20-yard effort.
Eriksen was again denied by the Armenia stopper just before the break, with Marcos Pizzelli wasting a rare chance for the home side when he sent a weak shot over the bar from distance just after the hour mark.
Denmark goalkeeper Stephan Andersen had little to do but he easily denied Aras Ozbiliz in the 72nd minute before a rash challenge by Haroyan changed the course of the game.
Andersen then produced a brilliant save in the dying moments to once again deny Ozbiliz from 30 yards, with Denmark claiming a crucial win.

Done deal? Juventus to sign one-time Liverpool target who cost €18 million

Anzhi V Liverpool
One-time Liverpool striker target Lacina Traore is heading for Juventus, according to an ex-Chelsea defender.
The Anzhi Machachkala meltdown happened at an opportune time for a number of clubs, with Chelsea profiting by signing both Willian and Samuel Eto'o, a double deal which would have been unthinkable even this time last month.
Another club to benefit was Dinamo Moscow, with the Russian club signing three players from Anzhi, including one they had sold to them just a month before.

23-year-old Traore is a giant at 6ft 8 and has bagged 35 goals in his past two seasons in Russian football. Anzhi paid €18 million to Kuban Krasnodar for his signature a year ago.
Their manager, former Romanian international Dan Petrescu was quizzed on Wednesday regarding the possibility of signing a fourth, Ivory coast striker Lacina Traore.
Back then he was touted as a transfer target for Liverpool, and even last November, SkySports reported Traore's agent as stating the Reds were still showing an interest in the frontman. Traore scored a winner againstLiverpool in a 1-0 Europa League game for Anzhi subsequently.
With Anzhi's financial remodelling, there was tentative speculation that Liverpool could go back in for him, but given the form of Daniel Sturridge up front and the signing of another frontman in Iago Aspas, it was a bait which Brendan Rodgers did not take, focusing on an ultimately doomed pursuit of his teammate Willian instead.
Now it appears that another big European club are ready to move for him, and may even have agreed a deal if whispers are correct.
Dinamo Moscow coach Dan Petrescu told Russian newspaper Sport Express that he wouldn't be moving for him as Traore was already likely off to Serie A.
"I like him as a player, but we do not forget that we also have forwards Kokorin and Kuranyi. Moreover, according to those that have my information in January, Traoré will move to Juventus."
Juventus are less than enthused with new signing Fernando Llorente, who had a poor season at Athletic Bilbao last season. They are already said to have been making enquiries about bringing in a new striker for Carlos Tevez to play behind in January, and Traore could well be that man.
Should Liverpool have moved for Traore on the cheap this summer, or did they simply not need him?
